NOT GOOD! T^T

Journal Entry: Thu May 8, 2008, 7:21 PM

*cries*

Not sure why, my PC "Frankie" is going slooooooooooooooow as hell and freezing up. I haven't had ANY problems with it, up until just today, while trying to get on it after work.

I did my CA protection updates, ran a scan, it's all clean, I don't have stupid shit on the hard drive that would cause harm, so I'm COMPLETELY baffled. Try to get on to Firefox or even the shitty as hell Internet Explorer and it starts hiccuping and locking up.

I'm using the laptop right now to type this up, in case you're wondering.

I can get to my C drive and am slooooooooooooooooooowly trying to delete music and video files I no longer, to see if that helps any.

I checked the Task Manager, and it reads that I'm running somewhere around 55 processes, even when I have nothing running and am just sitting on the desktop. I know there is something called Tea Timer running ( it's a bot which runs with Spybot Search and Destroy ), which hasn't been running properly ( doesn't want to close properly when I go to shut the machine down for the night ). I don't know that that has anything to do with it.

The machine isn't left on at ALL during the day, while I'm away at work, as I don't like over heating anything or running electricity when it's not needed ( saving on our electric bill as much as we can here ). I'm at a loss for thought.

Wondering if it's the processor, like the computer down in the kitchen.

I don't like it.

Just had to hard boot it again ( flip the power switch on the back of the machine ), had it go to the sign in screen and shut the machine down from there. I'll let it rest for about a half hour, then we'll see.

But dammnit, I'm going to have to ask Dad to take a look at it, and I HATE asking him for any kind of help with anything. HATE IT.

( EDIT )

Dad thinks it may be the hard drive going. It wasn't a brand new hard drive when he gave it to me, so he thinks that with all of the stress I've been putting on the machine ( artwork, music, movies, burning files onto CD's, etc ), it's putting too much work on the hard drive, so we'll have to transfer all of my files ( again ) to a new hard drive, and re-install all of my programs again. Hopefully Illustrator won't give me problems. The new ( legally purchased ) Adobe programs seem to love giving users problems if they're on more than one machine.

( /EDIT )

Oh my goodness! * hugs * Hang in there Bee!
It might be the processor too. When it gets very hot, PC goes slow and freezes. It have happened to me several times and it was the processor. It also overheated my mother board. x.x

Believe what you want, but watch what i do.
Oh--did you clean up the registry files? My laptop was running super-slow. I didn't understand why because I didn't have that many programs on it and I'm very diligent about deleting old files.

If you don't have it already, download Ad-Aware (free), to get rid of the spybot crap. Run it once a week. [link]=pop.software&cdlPid=10837062

Here's the link for the registry cleaner. [link] You have to have backup files, because it might delete something you need--but it does that already.

Goodluck!

I actually use both Spybot: Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster, both which ROCK. I use those two and CA ( got rid of Norton Antivirus a LONG time ago ). All 3 programs reported that the system was clean of bad stuff, so, knowing how "well" my Dad rebuilds machines nowadays, I really do think it is because he gave me an already used hard drive to begin with ( as in he just reformatted the entire thing before he gave it to me last year... ugh, I know he wants to save money, but then he also wants to know why the machines he builds die out easily. )

Off topic here, but OOOO!!! Sounds like the birds in the area finally found the bird feeder I have hanging off of my window! X3 I hear them going ca-RAZY at it right now! X3!!

Yep, it's actually pretty clean. Whenever I vaccumm my room, I'll usually take the brush attachment for the hose and get back behind the machine, and when it was opened, it was all good. I'm kind of picky about dust being anywhere in my area, because of allergies ^^;.

I'll get the full answer from Da when he gets home a little later ( if he had the chance to work on it at work today ).

That was actually my first thought when I tried using it yesterday. That exact thing is what's going on with the computer in the kitchen, but Da was also a dingdong and put the PC in an old shelf area that doesn't have an open back ( yes, a PC in the kitchen. Why he insists on having one there, I'll never know. He has the TV program installed in it, so that's the only reason I'd ever use that machine. We keep on trying to convince him to just put a normal TV in there and leave the computers OUT of the kitchen, since that's where we, you know, COOK and make greasy foody messes. ).

That COULD be it, but again, I won't know until Da actually gets around to working on it.

You have to try harder on convincing him of not having a PC in the kitchen. If he knows how to repair things he should know a kitchen is not a place for a desktop.

Luck with that.

He's stubborn and bull headed as hell. EVERYONE has tried convincing him, but to no avail. No skin off of my back, though. I only use it for the tv when eating breakfast or dinner, unless I bring my food to my room, and it's computer, so if he wants to keep having to repair it, that's his choice. It's his money. XP I have my own machines and tv, so I can do quite nicely without his machines.
