A Vendors Verdict on KawaiiLand

My own verdict on KawaiiLand, as a vendor? Pretty much everything mentioned by Indira Jainanan in her own verdict post.

Add on the fact the music was WAY too unbelievably loud, the loudest I’ve ever encountered while selling at ANY event, and that’s saying a lot. Vendors should not have to shout in order to communicate with potential customers throughout the entire event. If we can’t hear them, then they sure as heck cannot hear us. Give the vendors a breather in order to hopefully make some sales with out risking their vocal chords.

My table partner, my helper, and I did luck out by not being anywhere near the speakers, like others were, and we were able to snag a well lit area, we were able to work on our projects and see properly. But that was the extent of it.

We seemed to be the hub of where people were walking, right by the entrance stairs and exit stairs, but this meant little. People were hanging out in front of our table, two camera men actually tried to set up their tripods to hold photoshoots right in front of our table. They did move it to the area to our left, but this meant they were also constantly bumping into my work area (I needed to be in front of the table to demo while working on a yarn tail. Camera people and costumers generally bumping me, my chair, my work stations, the tail itself. And you couldn’t ask them to cut it out, as they wouldn’t be able to hear us anyway.

The loss of the extra hour at the end, due to very poor planning (or communication) truthfully was a huge fuck over. $60 an hour for 5 hours, $300 total for table SPACE (they expected us to bring tables. I expect that from events like town day celebrations, but we’re given MUCH larger spaces at those events, enough so to set up a canopy and several tables, and for MUCH less that what we were charged at KawaiiLand.

It became very clear that attendees were not there to shop. And we were not the only ones to face this. So do I feel that all of the vendors were brought in simply to make ticket sales? You better believe it.

And verdict from the ever loverly, Indira:…
